Job Description: Manage the activities of the Central Design Organization to provide engineering services to the nuclear plants. Ensure managed activities are conducted in accordance with appropriate regulations and TVA policies and procedures, in a manner to maintain technical integrity of TVA facilities, and to safeguard the health and safety of the general public, the environment, and TVA employees. Primary responsibility is to maintain the site design basis, plant configuration control, and allocate the design margins on safety-related systems. Authorizes design activities necessary to ensure plant design basis is maintained and ensures the mechanical/nuclear program is managed in an effective and efficient manner. Job Responsibilities: Responsible as the design authority for Central Design Engineering and as such, maintains design configuration control and design basis documents. Advises plant managers on impact of operating characteristics when plant configurations are changed due to new/revised requirements or unanticipated challenges to ensure continued safe and reliable operation (site only). Approve design and modification packages, including design drawings, engineering specifications, calculations, tabulations, requisitions, bills of materials, test documents, procurement specifications, etc. Make decisions regarding staff evaluations, overtime, disciplinary actions, etc., to provide staffing levels, budget allocations, and priority of engineering. Maintain open and professional communications with task performance contractors, INPO, and NRC personnel to discuss engineering problems and solutions. Provide training as needed to maintain required skills and continually advance technical expertise for all permanent staff positions. Document, evaluate, and resolve all conditions adverse to quality in areas of assignment to ensure design integrity and compliance with all TVA Nuclear and Nuclear Engineering policies and procedures, and applicable legislation. Provide support as required to other Lead Engineers, the Engineering Directors, Plant Managers, Site Vice Presidents, and other operations, maintenance, and modifications managers to resolve specific engineering issues. Maintain a competent motivated workforce in the production of engineering deliverables and resolve differences between various engineering disciplines in multi-discipline projects, to support the assigned plant systems. Manage the areas of responsibility within policies and procedures, labor agreements, and applicable legislation, and provide functional guidance to allocate engineering personnel to the project organization, and ensure the sharing of technology throughout Nuclear Engineering. Manage the development of engineering requirements for specifications, design criteria, drawings, engineering technical guides, standards, and instructions to ensure design integrity and compliance with nuclear power and engineering policies, procedures, and applicable legislation. Plan work assignments, determine methods, resolve technical interfaces, and act as the final technical authority on engineering requirements, to ensure the efficient and effective production of engineering deliverables in a timely manner. Job Requirements: Ten years of engineering experience associated with design, construction, maintenance, and/or operation of a power generating plant including a minimum of 5 years of nuclear power plant experience. Greater than 3 years of site engineering management experience desired. A broad knowledge of engineering theories, principles, practices, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements sufficient to manage multi-discipline production engineering. Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel, manage budgets, control projects, and schedules. Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions. B.S. degree in engineering from an accredited college or university; completion of PWR and/or BWR systems course is desirable. M.S. degree in engineering desired.
