Job Description: Additional duties may include multi-state research related to Costco members, merchandise and activity by Costco Wholesale, as well as the development of procedures for warehouses, Regional and Central. The Analyst manages various government tax audits conducted by states, counties, cities and third-party consultants for sales, use, cigarette, fuel and other miscellaneous tax types. The Analyst ensures the accuracy of existing procedures through research of state regulations and updates various published and internal documents as needed. The Analyst can manage any indirect tax related audit or research project. The successful candidate is very detail oriented, can manage multiple projects (some with deadlines), and enjoys working both independently and with a large and diverse team. Job Responsibilities: Provides guidance and training to Tax Accountants assisting with audits and other projects. Manages multiple research projects. Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location. Researches and comprehends multi-state tax laws (sales, use, transactions, miscellaneous). This includes the ability to document and explain complex tax issues to state representatives, warehouses, other departments and members. Primary focus will be reviewing tax laws as it relates to travel activity. Develops procedures for tax reporting and exemption documentation. Responds to tax inquiries from other departments, members and various agencies. Represents Costco before government tax auditors. Requires evaluation and preparation of a wide variety of records from corporate departments and warehouses, as well as the ability to support conclusions through tax research. Assists in the maintenance of tax information available on the Tax Department’s intranet site. Preparation and filing of various jurisdictional returns for Costco Travel. Completes Ad hoc tax projects as needed. Assists in maintaining the product tax system using Legacy, SAP and Vertex. Job Requirements: Knowledge of the application of sales and use tax laws in multiple states. Ability to research, comprehend and disseminate tax laws. Three (3) or more years of experience managing multiple multi-state sales/use tax audits. Ability to comprehend and effectively communicate written and numeric information accurately and efficiently. Ability to multi-task and prioritize a wide variety of projects, working both independently and as part of a team. Experience researching indirect tax law application in the travel industry. Strong understanding of accounting concepts. Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, G-mail, and Chrome. Ability to work in high stress situations. Bachelor’s degree with emphasis or major in accounting preferred.
