- The Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics (CBD) department at Amgen is looking for a highly motivated Computational Biologist with expertise in data science, infrastructure, statistical modeling, handling clinical data sets and a background in biology. The primary responsibilities would be analysis of biomarker data for the assessment of biological impact, biochemical coverage, patient stratification, and indication selection in Amgen’s clinical development programs. This role will provide subject matter expertise and leadership in the data science domain across CBD. The job will involve working with biologists especially in immuno-oncology to leverage information on our targeted biological pathways along with development of computational algorithms to manage and mine internal and external genomics, GWAS, next-generation sequencing and other high-content databases. The candidate is expected to interface cross-functionally with the early development teams, assay laboratories, in-vitro diagnostics and biomarker representatives. As such, strong communication skills are imperative. Data integration, management, visualization, analysis and presentation are anticipated to be a substantial component of this job and the candidate is expected to provide leadership and expertise in those domains. Qualification & Experience:
- Doctorate degree
- Master’s degree and 4 years of scientific experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of scientific experience
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Biology
- Three or more years of relevant experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry and a proven track record of productivity
- Excellent grasp of statistics or applied mathematics to analyze large-scale biological data sets such as those from Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms.
- Excellent grasp of biostatistics
- Familiarity with machine learning methods as they relate to NGS, GWAS, single-cell transcriptomics, or flow cytometry
- Ability to translate biological and medical questions into analytical models providing actionable results
- Programming experience in scripting languages such as Python & R, and good programming practices
- Experience in implementing program-based strategies for both pharmacodynamic and patient stratification biomarkers
- Familiarity with assay development and qualification requirements for clinical trial support
- Experience with HPC infrastructure, Cloud operations, scientific application development and data management
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment and drive scientific and technical innovation collaboratively with other members of the group, as well as with Amgen research community
- Enjoys working in collaborative team environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, independence and leadership.
