Job Description:
- The Supply Chain Manager for transportation is a key position in the US Region for the implementation of strategic logistics projects that support and advance the distribution operation at Amgen’s Louisville Distribution Center. The individual in this position will be accountable for managing the performance of Amgen’s transportation service providers for commercial distribution in the US market. The Supply Chain Manager for transportation is also responsible for evaluating and advancing the cold chain program for the US Region in collaboration with the Corporate Thermal Engineering Systems team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with standard policies and procedures and support, as subject matter expert, regulatory inspections/audits
- Maintain compliant training records
- Establish an optimal portfolio of transportation shipping solutions to ensure reliable distribution capabilities of cold chain products and execute temperature monitoring plan to assess performance
- Coordinate DOT/IATA training and support compliance with import, export and C-TPAT requirements
- Review trial balances from 3rd party freight invoice processing company to ensure accurate transportation billing
- Conduct quarterly business reviews and address service failures with carriers
- Manage quality records related to transportation events and risk assessments required for new transportation lanes
- Serve as the transportation representative for the US region on various cross functional teams, to ensure consistent and well-integrated practices are developed throughout the organization
- Identify, quantify, and lead initiatives that drive continuous improvement for the distribution process in the US market in alignment with the Operations READ framework (reliability, efficiency, agility, differentiation)
- Collaborate with 3rd party transportation service providers to ensure adherence to service levels, identifying performance improvement opportunities
- Prepare for regulatory inspections and audits
- Establish standardized mechanisms to measure progress against KPI targets by leveraging Amgen’s Enterprise
- Resource Planning system (SAP)
- Monitor and influence regional spending to positively influence budget while maintaining Amgen’s established quality and service levels
Qualification & Experience:
- Doctorate degree
- Master’s degree and 3 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience
- Associate’s degree and 10 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience
- High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience
- Understanding of supply chain business processes (Plan, Source, Make, Deliver & Return)
- Understanding of industry requirements (GMP, GDP, DOT, IATA & Import/Export)
- Experience managing 3rd party service providers
- Experience with information systems (Transportation Management & ERP-SAP (Order To Cash)
- Experience evaluating/implementing transportation shipping solutions for cold chain (active and passive)
- Ability to liaise/communicate effectively and easily with cross-functional teams and different cultures
- Ability to analyze abstract and complex problems requiring evaluation of intangible variables
- Ability to develop innovative and creative output based on interpretation and analysis
- Demonstrated success in Operational Excellence and major change management initiatives
- Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
