Job Description:

Provides guidance to staff and is the subject matter expert / lead in the design, development and execution of healthcare and health insurance related computational analysis, data discovery and reporting. Using a broad and deep knowledge of healthcare and health insurance data, operations and competitive / regulatory environment, works with key business staff to design and refine data related approaches to healthcare studies. Using various statistical methods, designs, codes and executes queries and programs to produce the data and reporting as required by healthcare studies. Supports internal, plan-based and external (non-BCBS) users in the development of best practice techniques for the design of data retrieval and analysis processes. Works closely with other members of the Data Governance team, council(s) and workgroup(s) to identify and address data issues and data needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support of the Research Alliance and other analytic environment users to include guidance, manuscript review and inbound / outbound file review
  • Using various statistical methods, designs, codes and executes queries and programs to produce the data and reporting as required by healthcare studies
  • Supports internal, plan-based and external (non-BCBS) users in the development of best practice techniques for the design of data retrieval and analysis processes
  • Support the data governance and metadata definition efforts to include guidance on data content, use, definitions and structure
  • Works closely with other members of the Data Governance team, council(s) and workgroup(s) to identify and address data issues and data needs
  • Subject matter expert and lead in the design, development and execution of healthcare and health insurance related computational analysis, data discovery and reporting
  • Using a broad and deep knowledge of healthcare and health insurance data, operations and competitive / regulatory environment, works with key business staff to design and refine data related approaches to healthcare studies
  • Supports and provides expertise to Network Solutions programs from a data and technical process perspective
  • Manages, leads and provides guidance to data analytics staff

Job Requirements:

  • A combination of education, learning and above experience
  • Working knowledge of statistical techniques and concepts such as regression analysis, factor analysis, correlation and standard deviation as it relates to healthcare / health insurance data
  • Understanding of healthcare and health insurance data including commonly available open source data such as AHRQ, CDC and SAMHSA
  • Working knowledge of database technologies from a user perspective such as data relationships and key structure
  • Working knowledge of SQL and / or statistical and reporting software such as “R”, Stata, Tableau, SAS, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements and information in the development of deliverables

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience providing guidance to or managing staff in a large healthcare data environment
  • 8+ years of work experience retrieving and analyzing healthcare and health insurance data
  • 2 years managing staff in a large healthcare data environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, information technology, healthcare or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of progressive health insurance industry experience
  • 8+ years of experience gathering requirements for, designing and executing healthcare computational analysis and research studies
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, information technology, healthcare or equivalent experience
  • 6 years of work experience retrieving and analyzing healthcare and health insurance data
  • Experience working with healthcare and health insurance data in a Blue Cross Blue Shield environment
  • 6 years of work experience using SQL and various statistical and reporting software such as “R”, Stata, Tableau, SAS, etc.
  • 6 years of experience gathering requirements for, designing and executing healthcare computational analysis and research studies
  • 8+ years of progressive health insurance industry experience
  • 8+ years of work experience using SQL and various statistical and reporting software such as “R”, Stata, Tableau, SAS, etc.
