Job Description:
Our Principal Gifts Manager is responsible for developing long term, meaningful relationships with individuals who have the capacity to gift six and seven figure multi-year gifts to Dogs Trust in order to achieve transformational change in Dogs Trust’s philanthropy income
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing a portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors based in the UK and overseas – from qualifying existing prospects/donors and developing the engagement and stewardship of prospects through the full life cycle of principal gift solicitation.
- To meet agreed personal annual income target as agreed with Deputy Head of Philanthropy.
- Ensure a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey with Dogs Trust which sets us apart from other charities in our sector.
- Ensure consistent and fluid pipeline movement of principal gift prospects and donors.
- Partnering with Dog Trust’s CEO and leadership team as well as other service delivery colleagues across the charity to develop relationships with prospects in your pipeline, writing briefings and coordinating engagement that will lead to transformational gifts.
- Support the Head of Philanthropy by developing, delivering and monitoring the principal gift elements of the fundraising strategy for Dogs Trust.
- Devise and deliver annual plans, together with associated budgets, in line with strategic objectives
- Leading regular reviews and providing regular reporting and metrics across the prospect portfolio, ensuring the strategy and prospect portfolio remain on track to deliver organisational goals.
- Deliver regular reporting against targets and objectives ensuring effective analysis of income and activity to enable the strategy to be refined and strengthened.
- To contribute to and provide regular updates across the organisation to ensure principal gift fundraising activity is embedded across the organisation and is aligned with the wider plans and objectives of Dogs Trust.
- Work with various service delivery teams across Dogs Trust to ensure you are kept abreast of all new developments in order to identify potential transformational projects for the principal gift audience
- Work with various staff across Dogs Trust to ensure agreed promotional opportunities and monitoring and evaluation commitments are adhered to for any funding secured from major donors
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience of ‘making the ask’ and supporting senior staff, volunteers and trustees to do so at the £100k+ level.
- A significant track record in a principal gifts role.
- Demonstrable experience of writing successful, inspiring, emotive and technically accurate proposals and cases for support tailored to a principal gift audience.
- Experience in identifying and developing new sectors/markets to grow the philanthropy pipeline.
- Appreciation of different types of philanthropic partnerships with individual donors, and the risks and opportunities these can bring for Dogs Trust.
- Articulate, persuasive and has gravitas with all audiences, including those at the highest level both within the organisation and outside of it.
- Tenacious, with strong negotiation skills and full appreciation of the commercial value of Dogs Trust brand and assets.
- A clear understanding of why outcomes are important to major donors and ability to present proposals with a focus on outcomes over a number of years.
- Highly numerate with demonstrable experience of preparing and managing budgets.
- Good organisation skills, and competent in the use of Word, Excel and databases.
- Previous experience of Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of high net worth individuals working in or interested in animal welfare issues.
- Experience of fundraising for international causes
- Experience of securing gifts from major donors outside of the UK
