- The main work will be calibration, studies of systematic effects, hardware troubleshooting, data analysis, and interpretation, on the recently-fielded CO Mapping Array Pathfinder (COMAP). Additional possibilities include the development of ultra-low-noise detectors and receivers at frequencies from gigahertz to terahertz. Dr. Charles Lawrence, Research Fellow and Chief Scientist for JPL’s Astronomy and Physics Directorate (7000) will serve as JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate but the postdoc will reside in the Astrophysics and Space Sciences Section (3260). The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with the JPL advisor, resulting in publications in the open literature. The appointee will spend a significant fraction of their time at the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics on the Caltech campus and at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory.
Qualification & Experience:
- Candidates should have a recent PhD in astrophysics, physics, or related area with a strong background in astrophysics. Experience with radio astronomy instrumentation and the analysis of radio astronomy data (calibration, visualization, mapping) is essential. Experience with Python and other programming languages is desirable. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years are eligible. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one year, and may be renewed up to a maximum duration of three years.
