Job Description:

As a Strategic Engagement Manager in the Industry Strategy and Design team, you will develop policy positions and house views on high-profile external payments infrastructure topics that support the advancement of the bank’s payments strategy. Recent topics include Confirmation of Payee, oversight of the New Payments Architecture and Central Bank Digital Currencies. You will collaborate with colleagues across the bank to shape and gain buy-in to your thinking, which you will then use to draft internal positioning papers, external consultation responses and develop external engagement strategies.

You will be committed to driving the right outcomes for the bank and our customers within the payments landscape. You will also have a genuine interest in developing your understanding of complex payments topics, which you will then communicate to a range of audiences clearly and succinctly. Lastly, you will enjoy working in an environment where effective influencing is a necessity, ambiguity is a given and where key positions are refined and evolve over time.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Representing the bank at external payments working groups
  • Keeping the bank safe by observing best practice in recording external interactions and ensuring key internal documents are kept up to date
  • Liaising with internal payments change projects to ensure that new and emerging regulatory requirements are understood, and that any challenges are positioned to the regulator
  • Providing secretariat support (likely to be one day per fortnight) for a senior payments working group
  • Developing house views and policy positions on key topics in payment systems; bringing in insights from colleagues in Retail, Commercial, Transformation and Risk alongside your own high-quality analysis
  • Producing internal briefings and responses to industry and regulatory consultations
  • Supporting senior leaders to represent LBG on key payments topics externally, by way of briefings, recommendations and insights gained via your network

Job Requirements:

  • A good knowledge of the UK’s financial services regulatory environment (payments regulatory knowledge would be welcomed, but is not a necessity)
  • Managing upwards effectively, to support senior leaders representing the bank on high-profile payments matters, plus be adept at managing own workplan
  • Confident in shaping and deploying a range of influencing strategies and tactics
  • Understanding why well-functioning payment systems are vital to the UK economy and the businesses and consumers within it
  • Adept at problem solving, using your excellent analytical skills and systems thinking to make sense of the issues at hand and ways of addressing them
  • A collaborative mindset and build positive relationships quickly with your stakeholders
  • A strong communicator with experience in writing for a range of audiences, including senior leaders and non-specialists
