Job Description:

Responsible for controls-related project work on the Corporate Engineering team within the global supply chain. Works on a variety of systems within manufacturing and distribution. Is responsible for developing turn-key controls solutions as a part of the automation development team. Ensures that controls solutions are designed in accordance with industry best practices, is aware and mindful of machine safety requirements and regulations and develops solutions with properly annotated code, tracked changelogs and robust close-out/turnover documentation. Serves as system administrator for major manufacturing and controls systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops relevant Scops of Work (SOW) for controls projects routed through the corporate engineering team. Uses good engineering practices and adheres to the existing engineering standards in the department to develop detailed project execution plans. Coordinates with the project team to develop agreed upon user requirements, functional specifications, and technical specifications. Coordinates work independently, utilizes in-plant resources, or works with contractors as required on a per-project basis. Is responsible for developing and turning over all appropriate technical documentation to the final owner.
  • Routinely looks for opportunities for improvement within the supply chain. Proposes project solutions that support improvements. Maintains controls equipment logs and an associated obsolescence plan for controls-related hardware and software. Develops and updates end-user training documentation for systems maintained by the controls team.
  • Maintains controls standards within the global engineering team. Routinely reviews owned standards and makes updates to reflect changing industry best practices and changing business needs or priorities.
  • Regularly benchmarks across industry and adopts best practices to ensure that MK is technologically aligned with its competition. Attends tradeshows to identify emerging technology trends.
  • Leads controls-related project work in the Corporate Engineering team including in-house developed automation solutions in addition to capital projects and project work relating to Manufacturing Information Systems (MIS) and Manufacturing Enterprise Systems (MES) and general industrial controls. Partners closely with IST (Information Systems Technology) on all networking projects to ensure requirements and goals are mutually aligned.
  • Responsible for system administrator duties for both MIS and MES. Acts as the primary point of contact for global manufacturing controls systems and responds to outages or issues. Serves as the primary contact driving controls-related Manufacturing Change Controls (MCC) as needed. Works to stay updated on hardware and software changes, and obsolescence and suggests projects that ensure the systems remain up to date. Performs periodic updates as needed and takes point in developing awareness memos, one-point lessons and training material for end users as needed. Seeks opportunities to develop job-aids for end users that outline preventative maintenance (PM) tasks and basic systems troubleshooting.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have strong experience in manufacturing, specifically within cosmetics, CPG, food/bev., pharmaceuticals, or similar.
  • Requires good writing and documentation skills
  • Must have demonstrated human relations skills to successfully resolve operational problems and human relations concerns.
  • Must be able to implement continuous improvement initiatives with proper change management techniques.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of manufacturing regulations, GMP, SOP compliance
  • Must have extensive experience with industrial networking and controls, with experience related to both Siemens and Rockwell platforms desired.
  • Has experience in engineering design and development of automation.
  • Must have experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Experience desired with ANSI/ISA-95 standard for MES design and development.
