Job Description:

  • This role is key to the continued success of Sainsbury’s Bank and AFS, recommending strategy improvements and optimisation for customers in actual or potential financial difficulty in the collections portfolios, underpinned by solid analytics, to achieve agreed delinquency and collections targets. The role holder will be an important player in managing the Bank’s exposure to customers in the Personal Loan, Credit Card and secured lending products, as well as the AFS storecard portfolio.
  • The role-holder will lead a group of 4 analysts working across all collections portfolios to develop strategy proposals that deliver fair outcomes for customers, including those in financial difficulty and those that are vulnerable.
  • The role-holder supports the Head of Collections and Recoveries to provide second line oversight for the implementation of financial difficulty strategies and ensure that bad debt performance remains aligned to expectations through monitoring and managing the impact of collections strategy on impairment through arrears level, credit loss and recovery
  • The role will focus on delivering against the strategy for all accounts in collections, to deliver fair customer outcomes and to ensure that recoveries are maximised.
 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build effective relationships with Collections and Recoveries colleagues, Business Change, Finance, Credit Risk Systems, Credit Provisioning, Compliance and other strategic partners.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to support the management and development of a customer management batch decision system (Powercurve) delivering Collections and Recovery strategies.
  • Build and manage strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to support correct implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and create a motivated effective and high performing team, identifying and facilitating a positive learning environment that creates opportunity and results for team members.
  • Use of data mining techniques, scorecards, profitability analysis and champion/challenger testing to refine and optimize strategies.
  • Monitor, evaluate and analyse all aspects of the strategies described above and clearly communicate results, conclusions and recommendations for improvements to senior management.
  • Develop Strategy proposals for dealing with Customers in financial difficulty in line with the Financial Difficulty Policy Standard, business risk appetite, compliance and regulatory requirements for SBAFS portfolios.
  • Provide oversight to ensure operational processes are appropriately aligned to strategy and SBAFS risk appetite.
  • Deputise for the Head of Collections and Recoveries as needed in governance forums
  • Monitor the effectiveness of strategies and compliance of operational processes through established set of KPI and exception reporting metrics and flag issues appropriately.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven strong data interpretation and analytical skills including data manipulation, analysis and presentation of findings.
  • Ability to create, analyse and deliver Collections & Recoveries strategies with a focus on delivering appropriate customer outcomes.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of the control environment within a financial services organisation and Conduct Risk in a regulated environment.
  • Team management skills, ability to manage team across multiple locations.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience of working with large data sets through various technical applications (Excel, SQL, SAS, Access).
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to convey and present complex information in a simple format to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Sound commercial awareness.
  • Ability to challenge, persuade and influence business stakeholders.
  • Experience in working with industry-leading decision engine software (preferably Experian’s PROBE/Powercurve solution).
