Job Description:

The Merchandise Sales Clerk will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Merchandise Sales Clerk under supervision sells merchandise items. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

• Keeps sales items in stock and on display
• Makes change
• Sells merchandise items
• Orders above items as necessary and maintains an inventory
• Registers sales
• Adheres to all SDZWA and department policies and practices
• Explains related history of merchandise
• Assists merchandise buyer
• Rents and maintains strollers and wheelchairs
• Demonstrates operation of appropriate merchandise
• Cleans and maintains sales displays and sales area
• Provides information to the public or directs to a knowledgeable source
• Opens and closes registers
• Keeps prices clearly posted and updated

Job Requirements:

• Prior work experience in a high volume, fast paced Food Service or Retail environment desirable
• Merchandising methods and register practices
• Understand and communicate effectively with the public
• Understand and carry out instructions
• Operate a cash register accurately and efficiently
• Background/history/operations of merchandising
• Zoo and Safari Park rules and regulations
