Job Description:

Toyota’s Digital Solutions Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Data Scientist.
The data scientist will play a pivotal role in planning, executing and delivering data focused projects (modeling, delivery and operationalization of analytic results). The bulk of the work will be in statistical modelling (methodology dependent on problem to be solved), management and problem analysis, data exploration and preparation, data collection and integration, operationalization.
The newly hired data scientist will be a key interface between the analytics team, business unit(s) along with various other departments (i.e. ITx and Toyota Connected). Candidates need to be very much self-driven, curious and creative. The role may also support the related roles of data engineer and R&D Program Managers at times.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Development of insightful and useful models to provide actionable results which will be used to support part development utilizing various vehicle communication devices (i.e. CAN300)
  • Statistical analysis as needed to support business initiatives such as customer segmentation and behavioral models
  • Work closely with R&D Program Managers to understand requirements for data use, analysis, and quality
  • Identify new opportunities to leverage data and to integrate additional sources or applications to enhance business value
  • Communication of analytic and model results to all levels of data consumers within the organization
  • Guide solution design to meet data and integration requirements
  • Upskill yourself (through conferences, publications, courses, local academia and meetups).
  • Promote collaboration with other data science teams within the organization (if there is a decentralized data science practice). Encourage reuse of artifacts
  • Envision future use cases for big data and roadmap solutions to fulfill those use cases
  • Partner with R&D Data Engineers to develop, manage and deploy analytic solutions using appropriate statistical software packages (R, Python, SAS, etc.)
  • Mentor junior analysts in utilizing data to solve business problems.
  • Network with internal and external partners

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Has a value-driven perspective regarding understanding of work context and impact.
  • Proficient in an object-oriented programming language (Python, R, SAS or other).
  • Willingness to learn new languages and technologies is mandatory
  • Degree in Statistics, Math, Economics/Econometrics or other related fields of study
  • Skill in creating mathematical models, experience in AI, machine learning, engineering design
  • Proven expertise in delivering data driven applications in the form of APIs, dashboards, or software packages
  • Toyota ECU Design experience including Deep knowledge of the CAN bus
  • Healthy curiosity about the industry and trends in data analytics
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization, both technical and non-technical team members
  • Knowledge of predictive analytics techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
  • Expert resource for tool development
