Job Description:

The Engineering and Environmental Office (EEO) is a department within Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Our team is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, with additional locations in Oxnard, California, and Allendale, New Jersey. Our primary focus is to ensure compliance with government regulations concerning environmental air quality, fuel economy, and greenhouse gas, as they relate to motor vehicles and engines. EEO supports Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini (and in some cases Porsche).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a developing technical specialist in Federal and State rulemaking processes related to vehicle emissions, fuels, and other automotive environmental topics.
  • Interacts with internal Volkswagen Group stakeholders to help coordinate and establish technical positions related to future regulations and associated test procedures.
  • Provides technical support to EEO and Group certification teams.
  • Coordinates with other EEO staff to participate in external activities involved in vehicle emissions, fuels and other automotive related topics.
  • Coordinates with local and factory leadership, legal counsel, certification, and development teams to assess the impact of proposed regulatory amendments.
  • Coordinates findings with internal and external stakeholders, including communicating with government officials to establish consensus on interpretations.
  • Supports future compliance planning discussions with Volkswagen Group offices to ensure implementation of US regulations in planning and forecasting tools.
  • Provides summaries of important findings and projections regarding impacts on future regulatory policy or other outcomes that could affect future planning.
  • Conducts in-depth review of complex regulations as needed to develop well documented interpretations.
  • Analyzes and reports on proposed regulations and provide forecasts to internal teams.

Job Requirements:

  • Technical presentation and communication skills
  • Knowledge of US automotive market
  • Working experience in intercultural teams
  • Technical background in environmental studies
  • Communication skills – able to concisely communicate as an emerging subject matter expert to general audiences, able to efficiently communicate ideas through interpersonal, presentation and written correspondence and across varied audiences
  • Awareness of US Federal and State regulatory databases and online services
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle engineering principles and processes
  • Project Management
  • Knowledge of data management systems.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Science Discipline or Equivalent
  • German language skills
  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering/Science Discipline or Equivalent
  • 3+ Years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably with automotive environmental topics, including legislative and regulatory programs.
