Job Description:

The main purpose of this role is to work with the Head of Executive MI & Analysis to develop and deliver insightful MI and analysis to for a variety of Group stakeholders to support commercial, capital and strategic decisions. Will need to be able to analyse benchmarks and external data and integrate into internal analysis, as well as interpreting commercial impacts of regulatory and accounting changes.
Finance is a major function that protects the reputation of the Bank by effective accounting and control and provides timely and accurate financial information, forecasts and advice to senior stakeholders to support decision making. The function is responsible for external financial reporting to shareholders and analysts, regulatory reporting to regulators around the world, internal management reporting to senior executives, the design and implementation of Group accounting policies, the development and oversight of Finance Systems, and has involvement in Global Finance Change Programmes. The output of Group Finance is high-profile and is produced in a confidential environment to tight deadlines but requiring a high degree of accuracy and robust control in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Produce MI that is used to make executive decisions on financial matters, to drive executive reporting for Board level management, as well as for Audit and Risk Governance Committees.
  • Showcase and embed MI and Analysis best practices, and the use of tooling, across businesses to answer analytical questions, drive consistent frameworks and standardise ways of working.
  • Support benchmarking activities between HSBC financial performance and investments to that of key competitors across market and Business areas, guiding subsequent executive and management reporting.
  • Assess the impact of new accounting regulations and standards, and clearly interpret the changes that may be required at Group, entity and product-level, working alongside the CAO to agree appropriate actions.
  • Compare internal forecasts with that of rating agency assessments and production of a clear outline of the subsequent actions to be undertaken by management in response to any differences between the two evaluations.
  • Deliver all financial and supporting MI required for reporting and analysis to the Global Executive Committee (GEC). The scope includes a blend of fully digitised reporting, which is driven by top quality written papers as well as any other deep-dive analysis required. Drive internal decision making and business led strategic outcomes.
  • Produce specific Bank of England (BoE) related MI that supports regulatory discussions. The BoE MI drives analysis for external reporting and generates insights, which are used to support and drive discussions with regulators in a clear and impactful manner.
  • Support senior management with ad-hoc requests that require thematic responses to internal or external stimuli on a random basis. Examples of ad hoc requests could include analysis for specific products, business units or legal entities to support strategic discussions and ensure timely decision-making.
  • Connect with Regulatory driven programmes, such as Basel 3 reform and IBOR, as well as external Regulatory directives, to understand and assess the impact on the Business. Clearly interpret and articulate what the most suitable management responses should be to these new or amended regulations and understand how they are included in forward-looking processes.
  • Compare internal forecasts of performance across Business lines verses the research and calculations of external analysts. Also support the subsequent actions to be undertaken by management to address any differences identified between these internal and external benchmarks.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong analytical skills with a commercial bias and an investigative mind-set.
  • Sound understanding of the Group’s strategy, commercially minded and customer focused.
  • Ideally with experience within retail banking, insurance or asset management industries (either within a business or from audit/transaction services/similar).
  • Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer innovative and practical solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective environment and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates business analytical and forecasting experience across a global matrix organisation showing strong technical and commercial understanding of what drives the numbers reported.
  • Qualified Financial Professional (CA, CFA, MBA, MA (Fin) or similar).
  • An inquisitive mind who is not afraid to challenge the status quo, continuously look at ways to improve processes.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning and organisation skills.
  • Significant experience working within financial services industry with significant exposure to senior Finance and non-finance staff.
