The Banking & Proposition Team is at the heart of first direct, bringing together the needs of first direct customers with the banks proposition, portfolio strategy and the commercial returns that the bank is aiming to achieve.
We’re looking for a Researcher to join our team to help launch our new brand purpose, deliver what matters at heart to our customers and grow our business.

As a researcher, you’ll work closely with proposition managers to generate hypotheses and plans for high-impact research that helps us better understand our existing and new target customers. You will need to have a solid foundation with various research methods

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define research methodologies according to needs, goals, and success metrics so that it is clear what questions we need to answer through research
  • Apply rigorous and innovative mixed-method research techniques to collect and analyse our target user behaviours
  • Get hands on –Plan and run qualitative studies, including field observations and JTBD interviews, diary studies remote, and concept testing and usability studies for new propositions.
  • Identify actionable insights, share synthesised insights and participate in proposition decisions on a strategic and tactical level
  • Drive confidence in what actions we should take next, either to continue or stop propositions or change direction based on findings

Job Requirements:

  • You appreciate robust research study design, but can also consider practical constraints and business goals – you understand what “just enough research” means.
  • You’ve got lots of hands-on experience research experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods, appreciating their limitations and when to apply them appropriately.
  • You’re a strong communicator and facilitator. You’re able to tell a story so your audience will want to listen and zoom into detail when needed to help your solutions come to life.
  • You are flexible in your approach and embrace a challenge; you might need to come up with new ways of answering research questions quickly and communicating the results in a memorable, impactful way.
