As the Contingency Risk Senior Manager, you will be part of HSBC’s second line of defense Operational and Resilience Risk team. You will contribute expertise in business continuity, protective security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risks to provide robust, credible, insightful and constructive oversight and challenge to first line of defense partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performing robust oversight and credible challenge over the management of contingency (including business continuity, resiliency planning and incident management), protective security controls (including access controls, provisioning and recertification, security guarding, security systems, travel and event security, workplace violence, and evacuation drills), building unavailability, and/or workplace safety risks and controls.
  • Supporting the design, socialization, and implementation of HSBC’s contingency, physical security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risk and control taxonomies.
  • Reviewing and challenging issues, internal incidents, external events, and strategic bank change programs related to contingency, physical security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risks to ensure risks are quantified and appropriate actions are taken.
  • Delivering insightful and evidence-based papers pertaining to contingency, physical security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risk positions to US boards, Risk Management Meeting (RMMs), Control Environment Management Meeting (CEMMs), and related forums.
  • Applying expert guidance on HSBC’s adherence to contingency, physical security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risk-related legislation and regulations from government organizations, regulators, and industry organizations.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key business and operational partners, serving as a credible challenger regarding HSBC’s contingency, physical security, building unavailability, and workplace safety risk treatment.
  • Monitoring Risk Appetite, reporting to governance committees, and ensuring that US businesses understand the impact of any Resilience Risk appetite breaches that require changes to controls, resources and business operations.
  • Owning the US Business Continuity and Incident Management Policy and providing subject matter expertise and credible challenge on US Resilience Risk policy dispensations and risk acceptances.

Job Requirements:

  • Analytically capable and able to review, interpret, and summarize broad and complex information.
  • Must be collaborative, organized, have good time management, and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Subject matter expertise in contingency (including business continuity, resiliency planning and incident management), protective security controls (including access controls, provisioning and recertification, security guarding, security systems, travel and event security, workplace violence, and evacuation drills), building unavailability, and/or workplace safety risks and controls.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles. Direct experience with policy development, control definition, or application of controls in a business content preferred.
  • 8 years of proven experience in risk management, business continuity, protective security, operations, consulting, or related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or professional certificate in related field required. MBA or graduate degree preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present across different levels of the organization and through different formats.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, with an ability to manage relationships across all levels of the organization, credibly challenge first line role holders, and influence partners.
  • Sound judgment, keen sense of urgency, and high level of professional and personal integrity.
  • Knowledge of US risk management and/or contingency, protective security, building unavailability and/or workplace safety regulations and industry standard methodologies.
