Reporting to the Group Chief Information Security Officer (Group CISO), and working with all cybersecurity functions, the Global Head of Cybersecurity Science and Analytics (CS&A) leads the team that enables and drives the “data led” strategy. CS&A develops and runs Cybersecurity’s advanced data analytics platform, on-boards and integrates hundreds of cybersecurity data feeds, and builds the analytic capabilities to work across huge data sets. They develop next generation tools and techniques that help detect and respond to new threats by mining the data in novel ways, creating and enhancing capabilities for cybersecurity operations. They create dashboards and automate cybersecurity metrics that enable data driven insights and governance across cybersecurity. CS&A also provide rapid expert technical assistance wherever challenging cybersecurity issues arise, and conduct research and development on emerging technology, apply machine learning/AI to cybersecurity challenges, and work with industry and academia to stimulate innovation that improves cybersecurity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Advise HSBC leadership on the latest trends in cyber security research and best practices through close collaboration and engagement across HSBC and with industry, academia, and government.
  • Engage in special projects on behalf of HSBC and Cybersecurity Leadership.
  • Spearhead the next generation of cyber security tools and techniques through the creation of prototypes, pilots, and funded R&D efforts to enhance analytic capabilities, improve defensive postures, and ensure maximum efficiency across Cybersecurity.
  • Establish HSBC as a leader in information security through contributions across multiple sectors in industry, academia, and government.
  • Developing and maintaining a highly skilled and effective team of subject matter experts that develop new techniques, tools, automation and insights to enhance cybersecurity
  • Identifying new and innovative methods to improve situational awareness and counter advanced threats across the Group.
  • Developing a “self-critical” culture whereby identification of weaknesses in the bank’s control plane (people, process, and technology) are brought to light in an effective manner and addressed through performing strategic assessments that analyze the processes, techniques, and procedures across the HSBC mission areas.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear and concise reports for targeted audiences across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of business finance as well as effective management of budgets and expenditures.
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in research, development and operation of cybersecurity
  • Expert level knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and deploying large scale analysis capabilities
  • Proven ability to understand and guide deeply technical work across multiple disciplines
  • Proven experience in a leadership position of a cybersecurity research teams to include team and capability development, staff development, career management, and recruitment.
  • Proven track record of influencing at the most senior levels in cybersecurity
  • Proven experience leading technology teams to transition lab concepts into operations
  • Proven experience and qualifications in major programme management
  • Direct personal expertise in conducting data analysis and visualisation
  • Expert level knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and automating highly complex analysis to enhance security
