Job Description:

  • The statistician will be a core member of the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine’s clinical/observational research efforts. Housed within the integrative Anesthesia Research Center, this person will be responsible for assisting clinical and research faculty in the design, conduct, and statistical analysis of clinical research studies. The person is likely to be working concurrently on multiple projects in the department and must have strong project management and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare sections of manuscripts and/or grants related to statistics and clinical study design
  • Collaborate with investigators on the design, conduct, statistical analysis and interpretation of clinical and outcomes research studies
  • Act as resource for investigators and other personnel on data analysis
  • Use SAS, STATA or R (preferred) to perform data analysis including regression analyses, propensity-score based analyses and power calculations
  • Act as the liaison between investigators and programmers to integrate intraoperative with other perioperative data for faculty to utilize for outcomes research
  • Assists in the design, development and maintenance of data collection instruments, databases and procedure manuals
  • Use relevant statistical software (e.g., SAS and/or R) to clean and merge multiple, large databases to meet the analysis goals
  • Provide tabular and graphic summaries that accurately reflect the results of the analysis in a form suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication or presentation at scientific meetings

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deep knowledge of standard statistical software including programming skills for statistical analysis in one of the following: SAS, STATA or R (preferred)
  • Experience creating databases using SQL, Microsoft Access, or other programming language
  • High level time management and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with observational study design and analysis; knowledge regarding the conduct and analysis of randomized-controlled clinical trials
  • Strong skills in study design and statistical analysis including regression analysis, propensity-score analysis, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, generalized linear models, hierarchical models and applied data science
  • Basic medical knowledge
  • Skill in technical presentation and teaching
  • Ability to interact and communicate with data scientists and hospital clinical personnel, including the ability to translate clinical questions into research projects

Qualification & Experience:

  • Masters required, or PhD degree preferred in epidemiology, biostatistics, and/or statistics, or closely related field.
  • Two years of full-time work as an epidemiologist or biostatistician, or equivalent experience conducting research/statistical analysis.
