Job Description:
We are currently looking for a Buyer I to join our team in Farmington Hills, MI. They will be responsible for sourcing, price negotiations and cost reduction activities for a limited group of commodities. Analyzes data and provides recommendations on courses of action. Tracks and reports on status of sourcing, cost reductions, process improvements, and other defined goals for assigned commodities. Interfaces with other departments and suppliers to ensure successful execution of commodity contracts. Validates that data in systems are accurate to assure correct reporting. Prepares professional presentations and leads meetings as required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, implements, and maintains cost reduction plans. Tracks and validates cost savings data. Establishes, executes, and manages contracts for assigned commodities; issues and maintains purchase orders, and related purchasing records.
- Coordinates activities between all departments and supplier base to ensure contract compliance and resolution of all major issues dealing with quality, cost, delivery, and design.
- Negotiates and establishes commodity prices in support of the department’s cost reduction goals. Engages with end users of assigned commodities (client groups and/or engineers) to establish understanding of the requirements and specifications of commodities.
- Manages sourcing activities for commodities. Performs comparative analysis of competing suppliers in order to recommend the most competitive source for a specified commodity.
- Updates databases and other records related to purchasing functions on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis for assigned commodities.
- Supports requests from others for data creation, data confirmation, status updates, and other activities as needed.
- Communicates with global counterparts to facilitate alignment of purchasing activities. Engages in workflow improvement by developing analytical techniques for purchasing activities such as quote review and bundling analysis. As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.
Job Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables, V Look Up), Word, and PowerPoint. An ability to learn and utilize a variety of other computer applications.
- 0-2 years of related experience in a professional business atmosphere. Prior leadership roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experiences.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with aspirations towards leadership positions in an international corporation. Candidates should be self-starters with strong intuitive skills to take ownership of issues with ability to find resolution to complicated issues.
- Good understanding of purchasing sourcing and cost reduction, including quote analysis, benchmarking, and negotiation. Knowledge of the automotive industry and assigned commodities are preferred.
- Strong personal skills in: Effective communication (written and oral), attention to accuracy of work, takes feedback and adapts, solves problems without being told to, works well in own organization and with others, and is a constant learner.
