  • The Location Analytics Developer consults with business partners to provide research based recommendations in support of strategic decisions for Publix. This includes managing the development and deployment of analytical solutions by researching and gathering data, performing statistical analyses to glean insights, software coding and training end users on the use and interpretation of these solutions. The Location Analytics Developer drives results, provides consultation, and end-user application development regarding location-specific recommendations, opportunities, or business initiatives. These could be in store (market or customer level), in support of multiple business areas, for real estate purchase purposes, alternative business concepts, IS/TS, or merchandising initiatives. This position is responsible for providing in-depth consultation for these location-specific initiatives, which may be ongoing initiatives. Location analytics solutions are also developed into user-friendly applications and placed into a self-service Apteryx server or ArcGIS Online platform for business partners to access independently. By maintaining the Apteryx server, and ArcGIS Online platform, the GIS team is able to continually take on new data requests while current customers are self-maintained. This allows Developers to have more time to focus on the consultation and application development portion of their position. Furthermore, this position is responsible for overseeing GIS-related suppliers and providing guidance to GIS Analysts, and continually seeking to gain additional knowledge in data analytics, statistical methods, and predictive/prescriptive modeling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • architecting database schemas (blueprint for how data is structured) by developing the logical and physical data models necessary to support the analytical solutions.
  • providing insightful consultation and recommendations to help drive decision making processes in retail and support by developing analyses, metrics and reports.
  • coordinating with the Data Scientist, Sr. Location Analytics
  • maintaining established data and analytical software and services supplier relationships as assigned to ensure GIS
  • Location Analytics receives ongoing support for those products or services Publix is contracted to receive.
  • developing GIS analytical solutions or applications, actionable tools, and recommendations to assist in making key
  • decisions regarding locations (store, market, customer level), alternative business concept, merchandising initiative, etc.
  • assigning specific work tasks and training and coaching GIS Data Analysts in best practices in terms of analytical technologies, methodologies, verification, knowledge of data sets, drawing insights, and communicating learnings.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • At least three (3) years in a geography/ GIS environment developing analytical solutions using advanced spatial statistical methods, application development and deployment, data visualization, and spatial modeling
  • At least three (3) years’ experience using ESRI product suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Arc Catalog, and ArcGIS Online) including writing SQL expressions for GIS queries
  • Experience (2 years) scripting with Python or similar programming language, or experience (2 years) performing statistical analysis using R and/or ESRI Geo Statistical Analyst
  • Experience (2 years) using Apteryx and/or ESRI Model Builder to automate processes, reports, and application development
  • MBA or Masters in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • At least five (5) years in a geography/ GIS environment developing analytical solutions using advanced spatial statistical methods, application development and deployment, data visualization, and spatial modeling
  • At least five (5) years’ experience using ESRI product suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Arc Catalog, and ArcGIS Online) including writing SQL expressions for GIS queries
  • Experience (4 years) scripting with Python or similar programming language, or experience (4 years) performing statistical analysis using R
  • Experience (5 years) using Apteryx or a similar ETL tool to automate processes, reports, and application development
  • Experience with distributed big data tools and processes
  • Any combination of the following: GISP, ESRI Certification, Apteryx  Certification, Data Science Certificate
