Job Description:
Investigates and evaluates personal injury and/or medical claims against Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises (29 ships @ September, 2004), attempts to effect out of court settlement with claimant, and assists counsel with litigation defense
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare settlement drafts and releases.
- Investigate claims for all facts. Evaluate, and determine potential liability.
- Coordinate medical air evacuations and/or disembarkation to shoreside hospital facilities for guests afflicted with a medical condition or illness.
- Board ship (independently or accompanied by defense attorneys) to conduct investigations and interviews of guest(s), crewmember(s), and/or Officer(s).
- Correspond with guest(s) or their attorney in an effort to resolve their claim.
- Meets with defense attorneys to review files and determine a strategy for company defense (settle, or litigate)
- Attend mediations, depositions and/or trials as a company representative.
- Make contact with family members of injured/ill guests. Serve as corporate contact for guests and their family; facilitate support.
- Open incident and/or claims and medical disembarkations in the Risk Management Information System (RMIS).
- Open and maintain files for active guest claims.
- Handle litigation files and provide discovery documents and/or information requested by defense attorneys.
- Notify the appropriate P&I Club or other insurance carriers and keep them updated.
- Review guest statements and accident reports (as prepared by Safety Officer) and informs Supervisor and/or Manager of potential trends.
- Attend bi-weekly departmental meeting and present their selected cases or issues for discussion.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to, read, analyze, and interpret common medical and technical reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate with our guests, fellow employees, shipboard staff and our business partners. Ability to effectively present information to Supervisor, Manager, Director or Vice President (RM Dept.).

- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent four-year equivalent preferred, Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training required.
- Must be able to retain a flexible schedule.
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
