Job Responsibilities:
- Pick up and accept merchandise returns and/or damages
- When help assigned (Driver or Driver Helper), maintain responsibility for truck and equipment. Lead daily completion of work and report questions/issues to SDO Supervisor right away
- Conduct Safety training and other Driver training sessions as needed
- Keep the truck and associated equipment in proper working order; report any problems to the Supervisor
- Drive the truck in a safe, lawful and courteous manner always remembering that the people will judge us by the way you handle the vehicle
- Process all non-delivered and customer returns following correct procedures, upon return to the SDO at the end of the day
- Sort freight, load truck and verify packages against the manifest according to route sequence daily using all equipment necessary including pallet jacks, hand trucks, pallets, skids and hand-held scanners
- Keep the cab and cargo area clean and free of clutter
- Have responsibility for and maintain communication with a team of drivers throughout the day and be able to make adjustments as necessary
- Track and maintain log sheet for hand held package tracking devices
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle being operated daily prior to leaving from and returning to the SDO
- Responsible for systematically routing daily deliveries.
- Train and mentor new delivery drivers and helpers
- Obtain accurate electronic or paper POD (Proof of Delivery) for each delivery
- Work as a team member by interacting and communicating with fellow associates in a cooperative, constructive manner
- Conduct business in a professional and courteous manner and attitude
- Handles all deliveries for the day and turns all delivery receipts to the appropriate supervisor at the end of the shift
- Use a hand-held package scanner in the delivery process as required
- Submit all required-delivery, POD’s, non-delivery, return information and reports to the appropriate Supervisor daily
- Deliver the merchandise to the customers (Residential and Commercial), in a prompt, safe, business-like manner and friendly manner; top priority should be given to taking care of the customer’s needs
- Regular attendance
- Fill in for shift supervisor and for Driver II (Cover Drivers) as needed
- Conduct consistent check rides and other audits
Job Requirements:

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push/pull, or balance weight for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift, move, and/or carry 70 lbs. and occasionally up to a maximum of 100 pounds by hand or may use dolly type equipment to deliver product to customers. Employee will regularly drive a delivery truck and must be able to enter and exit the truck throughout the day. Must be able to enter and/or scan product and customer information into a hand-held scanner (electronic clipboard).
Qualification & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to obtain a 6 month minimum DOT medical card
- 1-3 years of driving experience in a service-oriented position
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license – (no “major moving violations” as described in the employment application supplement and in accordance with applicable state law)
