Toyota’s Model Based Development Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to develop new powertrain modeling and simulation technologies for conventional and electrified powertrain vehicles by applying state of the art modeling, and optimization techniques.
Reporting to Shohei Nomura, the person in this role will support the Model Based Development department’s objective to develop competitive powertrains to meet changing customer demands.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Explore new product technologies to help improve competitiveness of Toyota’s products.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify new opportunities for research and development.
  • Travelling both domestic and internal to support our daily job.
  • Report out progress on a regular basis.
  • Support development of battery electric vehicles for thermal management and system planning.
  • Develop new simulation technologies to enhance current product development process.
  • Explore new 0D,1D, 3D simulation methodologies related to electrified powertrain around batteries.
  • Attend consortiums, conferences, webinars to explore new product and simulation technologies.
  • Benchmarking and analysis of battery electric vehicle energy management strategies.
  • Modeling of battery electric vehicle, drive control, powertrain, AC, cabin heating components controls.
  • Detailed modeling of hybrid and EV battery cells for thermal behavior and life simulation.
  • Benchmarking, reverse engineering, and modeling of battery cells.
  • Seek outside testing resource to do necessary measurements to help modeling effort.
  • Collaborate with Universities, research labs, and engineering companies to conduct research in electrified powertrain including hybrids, battery electric, and fuel cells, and apply to in-house development.

Job Requirements:

  • Battery testing, modeling or simulation experience
  • Toyota work experience
  • This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position.
  • Experience in hands-on experiments and testing for data acquisition
  • Knowledge of automotive powertrains – engine, transmission, driveline
  • Expertise in machine learning and AI
  • Professional experience in relevant engineering industries
  • Experience in computational simulation in relevant area
  • Master of Science in engineering discipline (mechanical, aerospace, electrical, etc.)
  • Understanding of electrified powertrain architecture and constituting components
  • Reporting experience on project status to team members and project sponsors
  • Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills
