Job Description:

The Senior Monitoring Engineer participates actively in the operations of the team as well as development efforts. The ideal candidate will be someone who is willing to pitch in where needed and can execute against work items such as Incidents, Problems, Changes, and Requests with limited guidance. At the same time, they will perform development activities demonstrating an ability to manage time wisely across competing demands while managing expectations with leadership and customers for work item and development effort fulfillment. The Senior Monitoring Engineer is an SME with a voice to speak on behalf of the team with customers and solution stakeholders yet collaborates with fellow engineers and operations members of the team to ensure the mutual success of the entire team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that monitoring systems notify end users (incident response support teams) with the right notification(s) at the right time(s).
  • Troubleshoot Application-layer monitoring carried out via APM tool suite Assist in designing, deploying, maintaining and improving cloud monitoring solutions based on IaC principles with CI/CD practices and toolsets
  • Transfer operations tasks to offshore resources and remain focused on high-value, project-focused work where possible. Seek Automation solutions to manual tasks.
  • Deploy, operate, maintain, and enhance COTS software and SaaS-based monitoring tools
  • Periodically review the Monitoring Platform Portfolio with the team. Work with vendors to maintain key product roadmaps, participate in POCs/bake-offs, and manage the tool/solution ROI expectations with leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in on-call and take part in major IT maintenance activities when required.
  • Troubleshoot, support, and improve the integration of monitoring tool(s) and on-call/Automated Incident Management tools with IT Service Management platform
  • Participate in Team’s Agile Development Cycles in completing new projects. Assist in maintaining an accurate backlog. Will also work with formal corporate PMO when large, multi-team projects arise.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with other teams and individuals, counterparts and leaders in regions around the globe, and fellow teammates
  • Perform routine and periodic maintenance and upgrades to all monitoring tools. This work varies in regularity but may include Security
  • Patching, major/minor releases/upgrades. It may include working with vendors on SaaS-based tools and coordinating outage windows acceptable to monitoring customers/end users.

Job Requirements:

  • Good knowledge of Networking technologies with the ability to troubleshoot systems when they do not communicate with each other
  • Working knowledge of AWS, Azure and OCI platforms
  • Mid-level Windows and Linux system administration experience
  • Clear and Concise written and verbal communication skills including technical documentation. Should be able to tailor dialogue or documents to the expected audience.
  • Ability to effectively translate end user requirements into functional requirements. Knows how to manage customer expectations, prevent project scope creep, and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible, team player, with experience working in multinational, multicultural organization.
  • Ability to identify manual work process and automate them
  • Office attendance – At this time, work from home 4 days a week , 1 day in the office

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience integrating event/alert generating tools to ITSM Platforms such as ServiceNow, BMC Helix/Remedy, Ivanti Service Manager. (ISM preferred).
  • Experience building orchestration/automation solutions in tools such as HPOO or SC Orchestrator.
  • Experience writing SQL Queries as part of creating monitoring solutions and/or troubleshooting
  • Scripting experience in at least one of: PowerShell, Python, JavaScript.
  • Experience supporting and managing Infrastructure Monitoring tools such as VROPS, SCOM, Foglight, Solarwinds, What’s Up, Nagios, etc…
  • Experience supporting and managing APM tools such as New Relic, AppDynamics, Dynatrace – (Dynatrace preferred)
  • Experience supporting and managing SaaS-based Synthetic monitoring tools such as Catchpoint, Dynatrace, Thousand Eyes, etc.…
  • Experience supporting logging and analytics tools such as LogzIO, DataDog, SumoLogic, and Splunk – (SplunkCloud preferred)
  • Experience supporting Platforms for Service Reliability/Automated Incident Management such as PagerDuty, VictorOps, Xmatters, etc… (Xmatters preferred)
