Xcel Energy Careers – Temporary Meter Reader

Job Description:

• Reads residential and commercial gas and electric meters, enters information into hand held computer system; reports irregularities, ability to communicate with customers; reports hazardous conditions to appropriate department, requires approximately 10-12 miles of fast paced walking per day and entering customer premises. Does require dealing with various terrains and animals. Job does require exposure to in climate weather, flexibility and teamwork. Individual must be safety conscious. The successful candidate must be comfortable being around and/or dealing with unknown dogs.

Job Requirements:

• All qualified candidates will be sent an online assessment via e-mail. Applicants must successfully pass in order to be further considered.
• Candidates who successfully pass the assessment will be contacted to come in for an information session and interview.
• After attending our information session/interview, our Team Leaders will collaborate to decide which candidates are best qualified and offers will be made.
• Candidates who accept the employment offer will be required to pass Xcel Energy’s background check and drug test. This process can take up to two weeks before clearance is issued.
• After successful passing of the background check and drug test, candidates are ready to start the training class.

Qualification & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to walk 10-12 miles per day
• Previous customer service experience.
• High level of accuracy and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Requires a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of handheld computers helpful.
